NINE  HISTORICAL PLACES TO VISIT IN ROME

Rome is Capital of Italy and one of the oldest town of Europe. Rome was capital of Roman empire which once ruled major part of  Europe. Rome is full of historical heritages and must visit place for any history lovers.

THE COLOSSEUM

The Colosseum is huge ampitheatre and  a major attraction of  Rome. It is largest ever created amphitheater. It was constructed during 70-80AD. It was cultural centre of the Rome. Gladiator fights used to be organized at this place. Huge crowds  used to assemble here to watch gladiator fights and other events. Many animals used to be killed during these fights.

TRAJANS MARKET

Trajan Market is situated at the opposite end of Colosseum. It is the oldest market complex of the world.  It was built around 100 AD. Shops and apartments were built in a multilevel structure.

ROMAN FORUM

Roman Forum is a rectangular area, which was cetre to political activities in Rome. It was place of triumphal processions, public speeches and criminal trials. It is hailed as the most celebrated meeting place in the world. The Romann Forum has remnants of several structures – Temple of Vesta, Arch of Septimius Severus, Column of Phocas, Temple of Saturn etc.

THE PANTHEON

The Pantheon is one of oldest temples in the World. It was built by Augustus in 1st AD .  The building is round in its structure.  Since 609 it is a catholic church.

PALATINE HILL

Platine Hill is one of the most ancient part of Rome. Imperial palaces were built on this hill starting from Augustus. Ruins of palaces of Augustus and Tiberius can still be seen.

THE ARCH OF CONSTANTINE

The Arch of Constantine was built to commemorate the victory of Maxientius in battle of Milvian Bridge in 312 AD. It is largest Roman Triumphal arch. It is 69 feet high, 85 feet wide and 24 feet deep. It is situated between Platine Hill and Colosseum.

THE TREVI FOUNTAIN

The Trevi Fountain is one the most popular fountain in the world. It has been built in 1762. It is a largest Baroque Fountain in Europe. A tradition has emerged of throwing coins in the fountain with the belief that whoever throws coin in the fountain will return to the city.

ST PETER BASILICA

St. Peter Basilica is regarded as one of the most of holiest catholic churches in the world. It is located in the Vatican City. It is believed to be built on the burial site of the St. Peters. This Church was built in 1626. It is one of the holiest site of pilgrimage among Christians.

CIRCUMS MAXIMUS

Circums Maximus was a chariot racing stadium and mass entertainment venue in Rome. It was  a huge stadium measuring 621 meter in length and 118 meter in width. It was capable of accommodating over 1,50,000 spectators.
