NINE HISTORIAL PLACES TO VISIT IN BEIJING

Beijing is capital of China. It was previously known as Peking. It is world’s leading centre of business today.  It is also a historical city and had been capital of several dynasties in China. There are several historical places to visit for a history buff.

THE FORBIDDEN CITY

The Forbidden City is imperial palace complex in the center of the Imperial City in Beijing in China.  It was built during 1406-1420 and had served as centre of political power as well as residence of royal household. The complex covers around 178 acres of area. It is must visit site for every traveler in china.

THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA

Great Wall of China is 21,196 km long built for fortification purposes. It is considered one of seven wonders of the world. Badalink and Mutiyanu sections of the Great Wall China passes though near Beijing.

TEMPLE OF CONFUCIUS

Confucius was a great philosopher in China. Temple of Confucius in Beijing is second largest temple dedicated to Confucius. It was built in 1302 during reign to Temur of the Yuan dynasty.

TIANANMEN SQUARE

Tiananmen Square is a prominent square in Beijing. It is best known for 1989 protest and square. Tiananmen was originally a gate in imperial China, which was destroyed in war. Tiananmen Square was designed and built in 1651.

BELL AND DRUM TOWERS

Drum tower was built in 13th century during  Yuan Dynasty.  It had been originally built for musical purposes but subsequently used for announcing time.  Drum Tower is 47  meter high structure. Near the Drum Tower stands the Bell Tower. Bell tower is 33 meter  high structure.

TEMPLE OF HEAVEN

The Temple of Heaven was constructed during 1406-1420 during Ming Dynasty. The emperors used to visit this temple for good harvest in the kingdom. It is an architectural marvel.

SUMMER PALACE

Summer Palaces in Beijing is a complex of palaces, gardens. It has been built 1153 onwards.  Kunming Lake covering 2.2 square kilometer is entirely manmade and the soil excavated out in the process has been used for building Longevity Hills.

ANCIENT OBSERVATORY

Ancient observatory in Beijing was built in 1442 during Ming Dynasty. It covers an area of around 10,000 square meters.

WHITE PAGODA

White Pagoda is a Buddhist Temple in China. It was built in 1279 during the Yuan Dynasty. It is oldest and largest Buddhist Pagoda in China.
