NINE HISTORICAL PLACES TO VISIT IN BUDAPEST

Budapest is the capital of Hungary. Three separate cities of Buda, Qbuda and Pest were unified in 1873 to constitute Budapest. It is located on the bank of Danube river. Budapest has several geothermal springs.

BUDA CASTLE

Buda Castle was built in 13th Century.  It was royal residence of emperors for centuries. Presently, it houses Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest Historical Museum and National Szechenyi Library.

PARLIAMENT BUILDING

Parliament is the main legislative building of  Hungary. It is located on eastern bank of Danube. It is the largest building in Hungary since its completion. It was opened to public in 1902.

ST. STEPHEN’S BASILICA

St. Stephen’s Basilica is dedicated to first kign of Hungary , St. Stephen.  It is largest church of Budapest.

FISHERMAN’S BASTION

Fisherman’s Bastion is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Budapest. It provides spectacular view of Budapest. It has been declared UNESCO World Heritage site.

HEROES SQUARE

Heroes Square houses statutes of greatest leaders of Hungary. It also has monument of millennium, which was built in commemoration of 1000 years of founding of Hungary state and opened to public in 1900.

CHAIN BRIDGE

Chain Bridge has been made over Danube river and connects  Buda and Pest. It is opened to public in 1849. It was first permanent bridge over Danube to connect Buda and Pest.

HOUSE OF TERROR MUSEUM

House of Terror is museum created to display exhibits related with fascist and communist regimes. It also has memorial dedicated to those who were victims of these regimes. It was opened to public in 2002.

DOHANY STREET SYNAGOGUE

It is largest synagogue in Europe having capacity to accommodate 3000 people. It was built during 1854-59. It was part of Jewish Ghetto during Nazi regime and many died out of hunger and cold. They have been buried in courtyard of synagogue.

RUDAS BATH

Rudas bath is thermal bath in Budapest, Hungary. It is claimed that this bath has thermal properties and can help to treat degenerative joint illnesses, chronic and sub-acute joint inflammations, vertebral disk problems, neuralgia and lack of calcium in the bone system.
